A

s the conductor raises the baton, the audience falls silent.

With the first sound, causing almost magical vibrations in the

courtyard of the Imperial Palace, the atmosphere of eager ex-

citement turns into high attention. The wonderfully balmy evening

can be experienced again and again: Around 1500 musicians present

300 works on 26 evenings, which are unique throughout Europe. It is

one of the continent’s most famous events bringing fascinating mu-

sic to the city of Innsbruck. “Proof of the importance of Innsbruck’s

promenade concerts is the fact that countries like Germany, Belgium,

France, Switzerland and Slovenia send their best orchestras to us,”

33 performances by some 1500 musicians

from nine European countries on 26 evenings.

Now in its 22nd year, the Innsbruck Promenade Concerts will bring to town a host of prestigious orchestras,

marching bands, ensembles and choirs from July 04 to 31, 2016.

The promenade concerts pursue

their own dramaturgy

creating a musical arc of tension

that completely captures the audience.
