I n dieser Ausgabe unseres Gästemagazins kommt der Markenkern
Innsbrucks „alpin-urban leben“ voll zum Ausdruck. Auch im kuli-
narischen Angebot spiegelt sich der Kontrast zwischen Stadt- und
Bergerlebnis wider. In den letzten Jahren haben einige bemerkens-
werte Lokale eröffnet, die durchaus internationalen Standard bie-
ten. Das Besondere an Innsbruck sind jedoch die Traditionsgasthäu-
ser, die den Modernisierungswahn der letzten Jahrzehnte des vorigen
Jahrhunderts überstanden haben. Man findet sie nicht auf den tou-
ristischen Trampelpfaden, sondern muss sie in den Bezirken außer-
halb des Zentrums suchen. Dabei hilft Ihnen dieses Magazin und wird
Sie mit der Vielzahl und Qualität des Angebotes überraschen, denn
was gibt es Besseres als einen Graukas im Bretterkeller, eine original
St. Johanner im Sandwirt oder ein Gulasch beim Lewisch. Noch spe-
zieller ist unsere alpine Kulinarik auf den Almen rund um Innsbruck,
die in 1–2 Stunden vom Zentrum oder von den Feriendörfern aus er-
wandert werden können. Der herrliche Blick und ein Bier zur einma-
ligen Knödelsuppe sind die Belohnung für die gesunde Anstrengung.
Weiters finden Sie in diesem Heft die Beschreibung besonderer kul-
tureller Einrichtungen, wie das Treibhaus, eines der renommiertes-
ten Kulturzentren Österreichs, in dem täglich Musik, Theater und
Kleinkunst unserer Zeit geboten werden. Die Festwochen der Alten
Musik wiederum erinnern an die Zeit, in der Innsbruck ein kulturelles
und politisches Zentrum in Europa war.
Ich wünsche unseren Gästen anregende alpin-urbane Erlebnisse und
hoffe, dass Sie dabei genügend Gründe finden, um wiederzukommen.

I n this edition of our guest magazine, Innsbruck’s brand essence
“alpine-urban way of living” is given full expression. The contrast
between city and mountain experience is also reflected in the cu-
linary offer. Throughout the last years, a lot of remarkable restau-
rants that provide international standard have opened their doors.
The special features about Innsbruck, however, are the traditional inns
that have survived the modernization of the last decades of the pre-
vious century. They can be found not only in the tourist areas, but as
well off the beaten track. This magazine will help you to find them and
surprise you with quantity and quality of the culinary delights on of-
fer. Delicious Tyrolean grey cheese at “Bretterkeller”, the original St. Jo-
hanner sausage at “Sandwirt” or a tasty goulash at “Lewisch” – just to
name a few…
Our alpine cuisine in the alpine region that surrounds Innsbruck
is even more special and can be reached within 1-2 hours from the
centre and lies within hiking distance from our holiday villages. The
awe-inspiring view and the ice cold beer that accompany the unique
dumpling soup are a well-deserved reward after a healthy hike.
Furthermore, this edition provides descriptions of special cultural fa-
cilities, such as the “Treibhaus”, one of the best-known culture cent-
res of Austria, where music, theatre and other cabaret shows of our
time are offered on a daily basis. Innsbruck’s Festival of Early Music
(Festwochen der Alten Musik) on the other hand, reminds of the time,
when Innsbruck was a cultural and political centre in Europe.
